These are great images to illustrate line and texture. The 9/11 site picture has strong expressive lines that are enhanced by the contrast with the soft sky. The rubble is a great example of texture created by line. I would like to introduce students to that texture by zooming in very close and projecting the texture on the wall. Once a discussion of the texture has taken place the image can be presented in its full form to discuss how the texture enhances the meaning of the image. The second image with the scars on the mans face is very powerful, examples of texture and line are present in this image. I question the appropriateness of this image for a classroom, it is very graphic and hard look at. The graphic and painful nature of the image is what makes it so successful, but I can imagine angry letters from parents whose children are unable to sleep through the night because if it. Great examples!
